Droolworthy Red Velvet

Wohoo! So excited when Bakerella posted her amazing recipe for "Red Velvet Cake"! I've tried using a few recipes (Sprinkles from a can and a homemade one) and they've tasted good, but not great. I'm hoping this recipe is THE ONE. Thanks Bakerella!! Here's the delicious recipe (and some pretty tempting pictures to add to it):
RED VELVET

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon cocoa
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups oil
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 oz. red food coloring

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease and flour two 8 inch cake pans.
  • Lightly stir eggs in a medium bowl with a wire whisk. Add remaining liquid ingredients and stir together with whisk until blended. Set aside.
  • Place all the dry ingredients in your mixing bowl and stir together really good with another wire whisk.
  • Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix on medium-high for about a minute or until completely combined.
  • Pour into cake pans and then drop the pans on the counter a few times to release any air bubbles.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • After about ten minutes, remove from pans and cool completely on a wire rack. I also cover in plastic wrap while the cakes cool.
  • Then make the frosting.
Cream Cheese Frosting

8 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup butter, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 cups confectioners’ sugar

  • Sift sugar and set aside.
  • Beat cream cheese and butter on high until creamy. Add vanilla.
  • Then, add the sugar in batches. Scrape down the sides in between each addition.
  • And frost away.

Did Somebody Say Steak?

After last night's dinner, Jay-R and I are still talking about how good the steak was at Ruth's Chris Steak House. Seriously. So delicious! You gotta try it–if you haven't already. Oh and we ended the night with key lime pie, chocolate mousse and carrot cake–yummy!

Yesterday I had dinner with Kat and Yumi @ Boston Pizza (it's been awhile but like I expected, still the same jokes and laughter–LOL). Sooo one of the things that we started talking about was Filipino movies. And right now we're amped up to go check out Missyoulike Crazy featuring John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo. Ha Ha! And a Library Too

{image via Upper King Charleston}
In addition to my earlier post about bedroom decor. I thought I would also toss out the idea of having an at home library (you can even add your movies/dvd's to this collection!). LOVE.

Room With A View

For awhile now, the colour of my bedroom walls have been lavender. Don't get me wrong, I love it. But then I started looking at LivingEtc and I started to get inspired. I don't think I'll be changing my bedroom decor anytime soon, but here are some fun ideas–if I ever do decide to re-do my room. As you can tell, I'm torn between choosing something fun and light designs and a few calm and neutral options. Hmm, maybe I'll just turn the guest room into my room too so I can have the best of both worlds–LOL. Well, one can only dream ^_^.

TGIF: Snow Day

{image via Peacockshock}
his is what it's probably going to look like when I get up tomorrow sans the cute bunny (I just had to include a rabbit because they're the cutest animal in the world).
{image via myrecipes}
So, after I get some work done, I'd love to just curl up on the couch, with a comfy blanket, some hot chocolate (with marshmallow's). Anddd a good book like Mitch Albom's Have a Little Faith or Uwem Akpan's, Say You're One of Them (on Oprah's list).

Cutest Salt Shaker Ever

Let's Get Digital: Lonny Mag

It's so funny, because today I was talking to Jenn (my co-worker) about digital mags and it just so happened that I discovered this.. umm.. how shall i put it.. AMAZING digital magazine. I'm not too sure if you're suppose to pay later on (hopefully not!) but for now Lonny Mag is free to peruse through online. It's very Domino-ish. Actually, Lonny even has an article about Deborah Needleman (former editor of Domino). Here's a sneak peek of their layout.

I LOVE this GIRL: Mrs. Lilien

Okay seriously I can't get enough of Mrs. Lilien! This amazingly talented stylist (did I mention she styles for Kate Spade?!) is one of my idols. Her stuff is GOOOOORGEOUS.

And her blog is fun. She's got fun items for every type of style and she even calls them "Mrs" something. Like these items below, for the first image she coins the term"Mrs. Cooks-A-Lot" and for the blue palette she calls it "Mrs. Aquarius"! Fun. Fun. Fun.

The Munchies

You want to know what good and "semi" healthy chips taste like? You gotta get Terra Chips. My mom brought it back from the store today and I've been eating them guilt-free for the last hour. Mmm.. mmm... good!

Totes, Pencil Bags, and Books–Oh My!

Right now the weather is completely blah outside. So I'm not inspired to write a novel. I was looking for something cute to post to cheer me up. I was hoping to find some sort of "bunny" element but instead found this cute deer tote from Bold Ideas. Look how big its eyes are. So CUUUUUUTEEE. Oh, and they have some pretty fun whale pencil cases (they even have owls!) and I'm really drawn to their "caffeinated" notebooks... mmmm... caffeine! I could totally go for a nice hot espresso right now.

I'm Off to San Francisco

{image via sprinkles}

LOL! Well I'm not going for awhile, and plans aren't finalized OFFICIALLY. Fingers crossed. It's on my to-do list to get dates done and settled over the next few weeks. But in the meantime, I'm realllyyy excited to go check out all the fun touristy things to do in San Fran aka "Bay Area". Yes, I want to check out Chinatown anddd the waterfront anddd ride the cable car andddd yes, find "Full House" street. But, one thing I also want to do is check out their cupcake shops. I hear they've got a bazillion cupcake shops. LOL Jay-R even said the real reason I wanted to go to San Fran was because of their cupcake shops. To which I responded "NO" then "Not really" then "Okay maybe partially". I even found this list on the best cupcake shops there. How exciiiiting. Here's a few ones that caught my eye:
